How to Renew Your License
Dealers and Salespeople are responsible for renewing the licenses of Salespeople they employ.
- The AID office is required by law to send renewal packets to all Dealers 30 days prior to their Salespeople licenses expiring. A renewal application is mailed to the licensed dealer prior to the expiration of the salesperson license.
- The license and surety bond expire 12 months after the month of issuance.
- A courtesy grace period of 30 days is granted after the expiration date.
- In order to renew a current existing license, the Auto Industry Division must receive the renewal application prior to the license expiration date, after which a late fee will be assessed.
- A complete renewal packet must be returned to the AID office and include all of the documents that were mailed in the renewal packet.
Grace Period
A courtesy grace period of 30 days is granted after the expiration date. A renewal fee AND a late fee will be charged.
Expired License AND Grace Period
A request for a license to be renewed after the expiration date AND 30 day grace period will require that the licensee start over as a brand new applicant with a NEW ORIGINAL APPLICATION and all original application requirements will apply.
No longer employed by Dealer listed on renewal?
If the Dealer listed on the renewal is incorrect, you will need to transfer your current license to the new Dealer. A transfer fee and renewal fee will be charged.
Renewal Form Not Received
Dealers and Salespeople are responsible for renewing the licenses of Salespeople they employ. If you did not receive a renewal form, contact the AID office immediately.
Expired License
IF your license is expired but is within the 30 day grace period, you may renew your license and pay a renewal fee and late fee.
IF your license is expired and the 30 day grace period has also expired, you must start over with an original license. You may not renew. You must start over with an original application.
Renewal Checklist

Complete Renewal application mailed to your License Address. Do not skip any steps.
- 2. Surety Bond

- Surety Bond or Continuation Certificate – Submit a photocopy or scanned document copy. Surety Bond or Continuation Certificate must show FULL LEGAL NAME and DBA must appear on the “principal line.”
- Salesperson Surety Bond or Continuation Certificate amount must be: $15,000
- Surety Bond or Continuation Certificate - One Surety Bond or Continuation Certificate copy must be submitted for each individual license the Salesperson holds.

- 3. Secure Verifiable Identification – Proof of Lawful Presence

- All Auto Industry applications and forms require that a licensee use their FULL LEGAL name as shown on the applicants Driver License or Identification Card or proof of lawful presence document.
- All Salespeople must attach a copy of their verifiable ID to their application.
- Submit a photocopy or a scanned copy of an appropriate identification such as a Colorado Driver License for the applicant.

- 4. Affidavit - Restrictions on Public Benefits

- All Auto Industry applications and forms require that a licensee use their FULL LEGAL name as shown on the applicants Driver’s License or Identification Card.
- Affidavit – Restriction on Public Benefits (DR 4679) – Submit a completed form. Form must be signed by the applicant.

Review the Checklist provided at the bottom of the renewal form. Ensure you have completed all steps in the checklist.
- 7. Rejections

Any fields that are not complete may result in your application being rejected.
- 8. Additional requirements

- All documents submitted must be on 8.5” x 11” size paper.
- Do not submit legal size copies.
- Do not submit double sided copies
- Do not staple documents, instead write your Company name or license number on each page submitted.
- Number all pages.

The Auto Industry Division must receive the renewal application prior to the license expiration date.
Applications received after the expiration date AND also within the 30 day grace period will be charged a Renewal fee AND a Late fee.
