Sports Betting Tax Revenue Hits All-Time High in October 2025
LAKEWOOD - December 4, 2025 – Monthly data released today by the Colorado Department of Revenue’s Division of Gaming shows parlays and professional football propelling sports betting to new heights.
Sports betting tax collections in October 2025 set a new record and surpassed the previous high by more than $300,000. The state collected $4,758,357.98 in total taxes for October 2025, a 47.04% increase from September 2025 that almost doubled the funds generated in October 2024. This record tax collection bests the previous monthly high of $4,443,573.61 set in January 2025.
Breaking tax revenue records twice in less than a year demonstrates the continued growth and success of regulated sports wagering in the Centennial State. The industry’s growing success is a growing benefit to Colorado, as the more tax revenue sports betting generates, the more money is dedicated to critical water initiatives.
"Colorado’s regulated sports betting industry continues to deliver significant benefits, and October’s record-breaking tax collection is a testament to its continued growth and stability," said Christopher Schroder, Director of the Division of Gaming. "These funds are crucial for supporting the state’s vital water projects. As the industry grows, we remain committed to ensuring a safe and responsible environment for all bettors, and we encourage everyone to BetSmart."
Furthermore, the total amount wagered, or "Total Handle," for October 2025 also saw a substantial rise, reaching $680,540,112.55, which is an 11.79% increase from September 2025. Fiscal Year-to-Date (FYTD) tax collections are also tracking significantly ahead of the previous year, with $14,415,134.35 collected through October 2025 — a 27.91% increase from the same period in 2024.

Sports betting funds water projects across Colorado
Sports betting revenue directly supports Colorado’s Water Plan Grant program, which funds critical water projects and advances the goals of the Colorado Water Plan. The Water Grant Program provides funding to efforts like the Colorado Connectivity Channel, which is the largest aquatic habitat connectivity project in the State’s history, reconnecting the Colorado and Fraser rivers and providing water to growing communities.
The impact of the Water Plan Grant program can be explored on Colorado Water Conservation Board’s newly released Water Funding Explorer at engagecwcb.org/water-funding-explorer.

People talk by the Colorado Connectivity Channel. The Colorado Connectivity Channel is the largest aquatic habitat connectivity project in the State’s history and reconnected the Colorado and Fraser rivers by bypassing the Windy Gap Reservoir allowing for fish and sediment passage. This solution will provide water to growing communities, and minimize the environmental impact of the dam.
