Division of Gaming reminds everyone to Bet Smart, offers responsible gaming resources

LAKEWOOD - December 22, 2025 – The Colorado Division of Gaming today issued a reminder to residents and visitors planning to participate in legal sports betting or casino gaming during the holiday season to play responsibly and BetSmart.

 

"The holidays are a time for fun, family, and celebration, and for those who choose to gamble, it's important to remember to keep it responsible," said Division of Gaming Director Christopher Schroder. "We want to ensure everyone is equipped with the resources to keep gaming a form of entertainment. "

 

The Division encourages all players to keep the following tips in mind:

 

  • Set limits: Decide on a budget of time and money before you start playing and stick to it. Never chase losses.
  • Know the risks: Understand the risks and take breaks. 
  • Keep it social: Gambling should not interfere with family, work, or other responsibilities.
  • Take a break: Use self-exclusion programs or take frequent breaks to maintain perspective.

Responsible Gaming Resources

Problem gambling resources in Colorado include BetSmart.Colorado.gov, which contains information about self-exclusion, helpful tips, and information. The Division of Gaming also maintains the self-exclusion list that allows players to exclude themselves from gaming, whether sports betting or at a casino.

 

Additionally, the Division of Gaming administers the Responsible Gaming Grant Program, which has awarded over $7 million to responsible gaming efforts since 2023. The program provides support for efforts that impact, improve, and support responsible gaming and problem gambling programs in Colorado, along with the issues that come with increased gaming and gaming options. The Responsible Gaming Grant Program is meant to provide meaningful funding and encourage prevention, education on gambling addiction, additional counselors, public awareness, treatment, recovery, data, and research in Colorado.
