Colorado Sports Betting Sets Record, More Than $4.4M Taxes Collected in January 

Colorado Division of Gaming January Sports Betting Figures Show a 6.54% Increase in Wagers for Fiscal Year To Date

 

Lakewood - February 28, 2025 - The Colorado Department of Revenue, Division of Gaming reported its highest monthly tax revenue since legalization.

 

Coloradans bet on sports at a record-breaking pace, resulting in $4,443,573.61 in sports betting taxes collected in January 2025. This record highlights the sports betting industry’s continued rapid growth in Colorado. The previous high for taxes collected in a month was  $4,128,369.29 in January 2024.

 

"As Colorado kicks off the new year with a record-breaking January for sports betting tax revenue, the Division of Gaming remains committed to promoting responsible gaming practices, ensuring a safe and fair environment for all participants, and upholding the integrity of the industry," says Director of Gaming Christopher Schroder.

$657,182,798.16 (1.35% increase from December 2024)

Represents a 10.14% increase from the total handle for January 2024 ($596,685,967.76) 

Total Handle: December 2024

$648,426,633.70

 

Total Taxes: January 2025

$4,443,573.61 (198.51% increase from December 2024)

Represents a 7.64% increase from January 2024 ($4,128,369.29)

Total Taxes: December 2024

$1,488,606.74

 

Fiscal Year To Date Wagers, including January 2025

$3,810,481,864.03

Represents a 6.54% increase from the FYTD Wagers from January 2024 ($3,576,433,380.73)

Fiscal Year To Date Taxes, including January 2025

$21,160,707.28

Represents a 9.35 %  increase from the FYTD Taxes from January 2024 ($19,352,000.65)

Since May 2020, Colorado has collected $98,059,783.48 from sports betting; this tax revenue is primarily allocated to the Colorado Water Plan.
