Colorado Sports Betting Continues Strong Performance in August, Funds Water Conservation Efforts

Lakewood – October XX, 2025 – New Colorado Division of Gaming figures for August 2025 show sports betting revenue grew almost 56% compared to August 2024.

Sports betting generated $3,705,170.25 in tax revenue for August 2025, up from $2,375,442.81 in August 2024. Additionally, monthly data shows both year-over-year (+12.04%) and month-over-month (+18.43%) growth with a total handle of $417,226,849.93.

"The continued growth in sports betting tax revenue is great for Colorado," said Christopher Schroder, Director of Gaming. "Coloradans can confidently place bets, knowing that their wager is a win for all Coloradans because the tax revenue generated goes towards our conservation efforts water throughout Colorado."

Through the Colorado Water Conservation Board, annual sports betting tax revenue funds a variety of water conservation efforts including the Frozen Assets project. The project explores an innovative winter sheet ice strategy in the Rio Grande Basin to recharge groundwater, support farming, and enhance wildlife habitat. Irrigators spread water across fields in winter, mimicking natural freeze-thaw cycles that sustain aquifers to boost early-season soil moisture and create habitat for migratory birds.
