As fall sports kick off, Gaming reminds Coloradans to play responsibly, Bet Smart
Lakewood - September 05, 2025 - With the fall sports kicking off, the Division of Gaming (Gaming) reminds Colorado bettors to Bet Smart.
Each September, Division of Gaming supports player health by participating in Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM) to help educate Coloradans on how to Bet Smart from the start by spotlighting responsible gaming practices and available resources. Throughout the month, Division of Gaming will help educate Coloradans by promoting betting literacy, empowering players to make informed decisions, and spreading awareness through an engaging social media campaign.
The campaign provides tips and resources in an effort to increase gaming literacy, which is like financial literacy in that it helps players develop fundamental skills and knowledge to responsibly enjoy the Centennial State’s gaming options.
"As fall sports commence, we want to remind Coloradans about the importance of responsible gaming and the wealth of resources available through BetSmart.Colorado.gov," said Christopher Schroder, Director of the Division of Gaming. "Our goal is to ensure that everyone who chooses to participate in gaming does so safely and responsibly, and that those who need assistance have immediate access to support and information."
Additionally, Gaming would like to remind Coloradans:
- How and where to bet legally in Colorado: In Colorado, there are 13 online sports books and 10 in-person sportsbooks. In addition, there are 33 casinos across the three gaming towns of Central City, Black Hawk and Cripple Creek, and two tribal gaming casinos. To learn more about these regulated operators, click here.
- Online Betting: Bettors are reminded that the only online gaming in Colorado is sports betting, all other gaming is available in person at the casinos located in Central City, Black Hawk and Cripple Creek.
- Sports Betting Tax Revenues: Annual sports betting tax revenue is used for water conservation and protection projects, which provide a framework for helping Colorado meet its water challenges. These funds support the Water Plan Grant Program, administered by the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the state’s primary water policy agency.
Water Plan Grants support the implementation of the Colorado Water Plan and fund critical projects across Colorado. Projects are wide-ranging and impactful to the state, focusing on enhancing water infrastructure, restoring ecosystems, supporting education and community collaboration, boosting water conservation and efficiency, guiding resilient land use planning, and much more.
At the end of the fiscal year, the taxes are collected, then distributed in accordance with C.R.S 44-30-1509. Fund distributions will be approved at the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission meeting in September. - Responsible Gaming Resources: Problem gambling resources in Colorado include BetSmart.Colorado.gov, which contains information about self exclusion, helpful tips and information. Additionally, the Division of Gaming administers a grant program that provides support for efforts that impact, improve and support responsible gaming and problem gambling programs in Colorado along with the issues that come with increased gaming and gaming options. The responsible gaming grant program is meant to provide meaningful funding and encourage prevention, education on gambling addiction, additional counselors, public awareness, treatment, recovery, data and research in Colorado.
