Any transfer of any percentage amount of the ownership or membership interest of any corporation, limited liability company, or limited liability partnership, holding a license under the provisions of this article shall be reported to the Board within 10 days of such transfer. Reporting requirements on stock transfers apply if the corporation is not subject to the reporting requirements of the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934, as amended (public corporations).

To be approved by the board to hold an ownership interest in a licensed business entity, the new owner must demonstrate the qualifications necessary for licensing, including a fingerprint-based criminal history record check, in accordance with this part 1.
How to Apply
Ownership Change
1. Complete and submit Change of Ownership Application (DR 2016). Do not skip any fields.
2. Complete and submit Addendum to Change of Ownership Application (DR 2017) – This form must be completed by each new owner.
3. Verification of Fingerprints
- Go to the Verification of Fingerprints page and read the requirements that must be met.
- If you do not follow directions, your application may be rejected.
4. Pay Fee(s) - Check should be made payable to the Department of Revenue. All fees are subject to change July 1st of every year. See button labeled $ Fees
5. Incomplete Applications - Failure to complete all sections of the application may result in a rejection or delay in processing.
6. Additional Requirements
- All documents submitted must be on 8.5” x 11” size paper.
- Do not submit legal size copies.
- Do not submit double sided copies.
- Do not staple documents.

The Auto Industry is now accepting applications online.
To apply online, you must first obtain a registration code. Registration codes can be obtained by any of the following methods:
- During your renewal period, your renewal and a letter announcing the new online process will be mailed to you. The registration code is printed on the renewal. Safeguard this number and keep it for future reference.
- You may request a Registration Code by emailing: dor_aidlicensing@state.co.us.
- In the subject line please enter: Registration Code
- Call the Auto Industry Division: (303)205-5604.
If your license is listed as "Inactive" or your renewal is in "30-day grace period," you must first renew your license before you can take any other actions on it.
