Name Change - Auto Industry Division

All Dealers/Wholesalers must notify the board not less than 10 days prior to the change of license (DBA) name.

How to Apply

Name Change

  1. Complete and submit an Application for Dealer or Wholesaler License Name Change (DR 2024).

 

  1. Submit one (1) copy of the original Bond rider. This bond rider must amend the principal line to reflect the licensed entity AND the new DBA.

 

  1. Franchised Dealers must provide a letter from the Manufacturer acknowledging the name change and stating the Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin (MCO) will be issued in the new name.
  2. Submit one (1) copy of the new trade name registration filed with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office.
  3. The form must be signed by an: Owner, Partner, LLC Member/Manager, or Corporate Officer (president, vice president, secretary or treasurer).
  4. The title of the person signing the form must be provided and form must be dated.

 

  1. Retail Dealers may not have the word “wholesale” in their DBA.

 

  1. Pay Fee(s) - Check should be made payable to the Department of Revenue. All fees are subject to change July 1st of every year. See button labeled $ Fees

 

  1. Incomplete Applications - Failure to complete all sections of the application may result in a rejection or delay in processing.

 

  1. Additional Requirements
  • All documents submitted must be on 8.5” x 11” size paper.
  • Do not submit legal size copies.
  • Do not submit double sided copies.
  • Do not staple documents.

Name Change

The Auto Industry is now accepting applications online.

To apply online, you must first obtain a registration code. Registration codes can be obtained by any of the following methods:

  • During your renewal period, your renewal and a letter announcing the new online process will be mailed to you. The registration code is printed on the renewal. Safeguard this number and keep it for future reference.
  • You may request a Registration Code by emailing: dor_aidlicensing@state.co.us.
    • In the subject line please enter: Registration Code
  • Call the Auto Industry Division: (303)205-5604.

If your license is listed as "Inactive" or your renewal is in "30-day grace period," you must first renew your license before you can take any other actions on it.
