SB23-271 Feasibility Study

#FFFFFF

Background

Colorado Senate Bill 23-271 primarily amended and expanded the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's authority to regulate and register hemp products manufacturers and safe harbor hemp products manufacturers, while establishing distinctions between hemp-derived products and regulated marijuana products in Colorado. Further, SB 23-271 created three classes of cannabinoids: non-intoxicating cannabinoids, potentially intoxicating cannabinoids, and intoxicating cannabinoids.

The bill also requires the Executive Director of the Department of Revenue to submit a report to the General Assembly analyzing the feasibility of establishing a standing committee to evaluate, determine, and make recommendations regarding cannabinoids safety and intoxication profiles. To assist in developing this report, the Marijuana Enforcement Division has contracted with a research team from the University of Colorado-Boulder.

If you have any questions, you may contact Chris Poirier, christopher.poirier@state.co.us. To submit written comments to inform the report, please send them to cannabissafety@colorado.edu.

Interested parties may also subscribe to receive updates from the MED.
