How to Renew Your License
- The license expires 12 months after the month of issuance.
- The AID office is required by law to mail renewal packets to the primary business/mailing address of record, 30 days prior to their license expiration date. The AID office will mail the renewal via U.S. mail.
Grace Period
A courtesy grace period of 30 days is granted after the expiration date. A renewal fee AND a late fee will be charged.
Renewal Form Not Received
If you did not receive a renewal form, contact the AID office immediately.
Expired License
If your license is expired but is within the 30 day grace period, you may renew your license and pay a renewal fee and a late fee.
Expired License AND Grace Period
If your license is expired and the 30 day grace period has also expired, you may not renew. You must start over with an original application.
Dealer/Wholesaler Renewal Checklist
- 1. Renewal Application
Complete all fields on the renewal application and provide updates as needed. Do not skip any steps.
NOTICE - All applicants must be in compliance with any Colorado Division of Child Support Services Child Support Order(s). Non compliance may result in a hold on your application and will delay processing.
- 2. Surety Bond
- Submit a photocopy or scanned document copy of Surety Bond OR Continuation Certificate.
- The Surety Bond or Continuation Certificate must show FULL LEGAL NAME and DBA must appear on the “principal line.”
- Dealer/Wholesaler Surety Bond or Continuation Certificate amount must be: $50,000
- Surety Bond or Continuation Certificate must be signed by an owner or a partner, a corporate officer or LLC member.
- Small trailer dealers weighing less than 2000 pounds – Surety Bond or Continuation Certificate amount must be: $5,000

- 3. Question(s)
- Complete all questions listed on the Dealer License Renewal Application.
- Specifically, complete questions 1-4 on this form.
- Any question left blank or unanswered will delay processing of your application.
- 4. Checklist
Review the Checklist provided at the bottom of the renewal form and ensure you have completed all steps in the checklist.
- 5. Expired License and Expired Grace Period
Don’t let your license expire!
If both the expiration and grace period have lapsed the licensee will need to start over as a brand new applicant with a NEW ORIGINAL APPLICATION – All original application requirements will apply.
- 6. Additional requirements
- All documents submitted must be on 8.5” x 11” size paper.
- Do not submit legal size copies.
- Do not submit double sided copies.
- Do not staple document(s).
- 7. Receipt of Applications
- The Auto Industry Division must receive the renewal application prior to the license expiration date.
Applications received after the expiration date AND also within the 30 day grace period will be charged a renewal fee AND a late fee.
- 8. Incomplete Applications
- All of the information on this web page is provided to assist you in making sure that your application is not missing any required documentation.
- The Auto Industry Division strongly recommends that you use this information to aid you in completing the application.
- Any fields that are not complete may result in your application being rejected and may delay processing.
- 9. Pay Fee(s)
Check should be made payable to the Department of Revenue. All fees are subject to change July 1st of every year. See button labeled $ Fees
Dealer/Wholesaler Online Renewal

The Auto Industry is now accepting applications online.
To apply online, you must first obtain a registration code. Registration codes can be obtained by any of the following methods:
During your renewal period, your renewal and a letter announcing the new online process will be mailed to you. The registration code is printed on the renewal. Safeguard this number and keep it for future reference. You may request a Registration Code by emailing: dor_aidlicensing@state.co.us.
