Less stress, regular hours, same community impact.

Laws come in all shapes and sizes: some deal with human drama at its most intense, others are a little more routine. Every law exists to protect the safety and security of Coloradans, and each relies on the actions of dedicated law enforcement professionals to positively impact communities.

If you’re an experienced law enforcement professional who wants to do good in a less stressful environment, join the Specialized Business Group of the Colorado Department of Revenue and help regulate five industries ranging from liquor sales to horse racing.

The Five Divisions of the Specialized Business Group

Our mission is to enforce state and federal laws pertaining to five regulated industries, helping these businesses stay compliant in order to protect the safety and rights of Colorado residents.

Within each division of the Specialized Business Group, regulators are responsible for the following duties:

  • Oversee the licensure or permitting of businesses and employees in the industry and collect fees.

  • Educate licensees, law enforcement agencies, and the public about laws and regulations.

  • Enforce compliance through inspections of licensed premises.

  • Investigate consumer complaints and discipline licensees to maintain industry trust.

  • Protect those who cannot protect themselves, from minors to racing animals.

Benefits
Regulators for the Specialized Business Group not only deal with less drama and less risk to their own safety, they also enjoy regular hours, opportunities to work from home, and all the other benefits of a secure job with the Colorado state government.

Regular Hours
With the SBG, you can bank on predictable hours. And since the work is regulatory in nature, there’s no rush to file paperwork and no need to worry about unexpected overtime.

Work from Home
These aren’t strictly desk jobs. You will split your week between duties around the state, such as compliance inspections, and duties you can perform at home.
